Manorathangal, released in 2024, is a landmark Malayalam-language anthology series that brings together nine short films, each adapted from the iconic stories of MT Vasudevan Nair. Conceived in honor of MT’s 90th birthday by his daughter Aswathy Nair, the project unites an elite cohort of filmmakers—Priyadarshan, Ranjith, Santosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Jayaraj, Aswathy V. Nair, Rathish Ambat, and Mahesh Narayanan—each directing a unique segment, all connected by an inaugural narration from Kamal Haasan.
The series features an unprecedented ensemble cast, including Mohanlal, Mammootty, Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil, Biju Menon, Nadiya Moidu, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Indrajith, Aparna Balamurali, Madhoo, Nedumudi Venu, Indrans, Renji Panicker, Surabhi Lakshmi, Siddique, and several others. Each segment delves into different aspects of hope, disillusionment, longing, and the moral dilemmas of ordinary people, set against the culturally textured landscapes familiar to MT’s readers.
Critically, Manorathangal has been acknowledged as a cinematic tribute to MT Vasudevan Nair’s literary prowess, receiving acclaim for its nuanced performances, visual poetry, and ambition in adapting beloved Malayalam stories for a new age. The anthology debuted on ZEE5, attracting diverse audiences across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi-speaking regions and stands as a major cultural event in contemporary Indian cinema.
