Dhinarathrangal (transl. Days and Nights) is a 1988 Malayalam-language action drama exploring themes of justice, morality, and human connection. The film revolves around Aravindan, who is shot by police after retaliating against Madhavan, a corrupt landlord. The twist emerges when Aravindan, wounded and on the run, finds himself under the care of Dr. Savithri, who is none other than Madhavan’s daughter. Despite her personal loss, Dr. Savithri is confronted with a moral dilemma as her compassion for Aravindan grows, leading to a profound story of empathy and ethical crisis.

Fronted by the powerhouse performance of Mammootty as Aravindan, the film stars Sumalatha as Dr. Savithri and Mukesh as Ajayan. The ensemble cast features acclaimed talents including Parvathy (Treesa), Siddique, Prathapachandran, Devan, Karamana Janardanan Nair, Babu Namboothiri, and others, making it a notable showcase of Malayalam cinema of the era. The screenplay was crafted by Dennis Joseph, while the melodious soundtrack and score were composed by Shyam (with other sources crediting Ouseppachan for certain tracks).

Directed by the veteran Joshi, Dhinarathrangal combined social commentary with personal conflict, inspired by the Hindi film “Achanak” (1973).
