Deepasthambham Mahascharyam is a 1999 Malayalam comedy-romance film directed by K. B. Madhu. The film’s title is derived from the opening line of a famous verse by the legendary Malayalam poet Kunchan Nambiar, whose art form of Ottamthullal forms the thematic backbone of the narrative. Plot

The story follows Mundoor Ramanandan Nambiar (Dileep), a talented but financially struggling Ottamthullal performer. He is invited by a wealthy man to perform at a week-long family function. During this time, the rich man’s daughter Priya (Sangeetha) falls deeply in love with the charming artist. However, Mundoor is already in love with Indu (Jomol), creating a compelling love triangle that forms the heart of the film. The narrative blends romance with humor, capturing the essence of Kerala’s classical folk art tradition while presenting an engaging and entertaining story. Written by Suresh Poduval, the film runs for 138 minutes and balances sentiment with comedy in a typical K. B. Madhu style.

Cast and Crew

Dileep delivered a memorable performance as the Ottamthullal artist Mundoor Ramanandan Nambiar, further cementing his position as one of Malayalam cinema’s finest comedic talents of the era. Jomol played Indu, his love interest, while Sangeetha portrayed Priya, the rich man’s daughter. The film also featured strong supporting performances from Jagathy Sreekumar as Nalpamaram Nambeeshan, Harisree Asokan as Kalamandalam Aliyar, Rajan P. Dev, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Srilakshmi, and Shobha Mohan. The cinematography was handled by P. Sukumar, and editing was done by G. Murali. കഥ

മുണ്ടൂർ രാമനന്ദൻ നമ്പ്യാർ (ദിലീപ്) ഒരു ഓട്ടൻ തുള്ളൽ കലാകാരനാണ്. ജീവിതമാർഗ്ഗം കണ്ടെത്താൻ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു ധനികന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ഒരാഴ്ചത്തെ ചടങ്ങിൽ അവതരണം നടത്താൻ ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ആ ധനവാന്റെ മകൾ പ്രിയ (സംഗീത) അദ്ദേഹത്തിൽ അനുരക്തയാകുന്നു. എന്നാൽ രാമനന്ദൻ ഇന്ദുവിനോട് (ജോമോൾ) ഇതിനകം തന്നെ പ്രണയത്തിലാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ത്രികോണ പ്രണയ കഥ ഹൃദ്യമായ ഹാസ്യ ദൃശ്യങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ചിത്രീകരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ കഥ സുരേഷ് പൊതുവാൾ രചിച്ചതാണ്, 138 മിനിറ്റ് ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള ഈ ചിത്രം 1999 ജൂലൈ 30-ന് തീയേറ്ററുകളിൽ എത്തി.
