Aavesham is a 2024 Malayalam black comedy action film directed by Jithu Madhavan. The plot revolves around three engineering students, Aju, Bibi, and Shanthan, who arrive in Bengaluru from Kerala for their studies. They find themselves subjected to severe bullying and humiliation by a psychotic senior student, Kutty, and his gang. Seeking revenge, Aju leads his friends to befriend Ranjith ‘Ranga’ Gangadharan, an eccentric and powerful Malayali-Kannadiga gangster in Bangalore, hoping he will help them settle the score. Ranga, despite his formidable reputation, is portrayed as good-hearted and protective of the boys, though he initially refrains from violence due to a promise made to his late mother. As the boys insist on accompanying Ranga to various altercations, their bond with him strengthens, pulling them deeper into his dangerous world.

Released on April 11, 2024, Aavesham opened to critical acclaim, with particular praise for its direction, Fahadh Faasil’s performance as Ranga, Sajin Gopu’s acting, action sequences, cinematography, music, and overall technical aspects. The film was a significant commercial success, grossing over ₹156 crore against a budget of ₹30 crore, making it one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2024 and among the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. Critics lauded Fahadh Faasil’s ‘verithanam’ (intense/crazy) performance, noting it as his first all-encompassing masala film where he effectively tackled a mass character. While some reviews found the film entertaining, they also suggested that the second half sometimes struggled with balancing a structured story and exploring Ranga’s character, leading to a slightly less tight narrative.
