“Aaru Manikkoor” is a Malayalam-dubbed version of the 1976 Tamil film “Uravadum Nenjam,” released in Malayalam around 1978, with the title meaning “Six Hours.” The film essentially brings the same story and performances of the Tamil original to Malayalam audiences, retaining its emotional, relationship-focused core.​

The movie originates from Tamil cinema, where “Uravadum Nenjam” was released in 1976 and directed by the duo Devaraj–Mohan. When dubbed into Malayalam as “Aaru Manikkoor,” the director credit and core creative team remained aligned with the Tamil version, making it more of a faithful language adaptation than a separate remake.​

“Aaru Manikkoor” is based on the stage play “Vilimbu,” written by Shanmugapriyan.
