M. G. Sreekumar, born Malabar Gopalan Nair Sreekumar on 25 May 1957 in Haripad, Alappuzha, Kerala, is a renowned Indian playback singer, music composer, and television presenter, celebrated for his extensive and influential contributions to Malayalam cinema. His family boasts a rich musical heritage: his father, Gopalan Nair, was a respected singer, his elder brother M. G. Radhakrishnan was an acclaimed music director and Carnatic musician, and his sister K. Omanakutty is a noted classical vocalist and educator. Sreekumar initially worked at the State Bank of Travancore and spent time in the Middle East before pursuing his passion for music full-time.

He launched his professional singing career in the early 1980s, initially accompanying his brother at Carnatic concerts and later making his playback singing debut with the Malayalam film Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984). Sreekumar’s breakthrough came with the film Chithram (1988), in which he sang all the songs, marking a long-standing collaboration with composer-director Priyadarshan and actor Mohanlal.
