Deepak Devraj Komath, professionally known as Deepak Dev, is a prominent Indian music composer celebrated for his significant contributions to Malayalam cinema. Born on April 30, 1978, in Thalassery, Kerala, he spent his formative years in Dubai, where he cultivated his early musical talents. He attended the Indian High School in Dubai and initially trained in Indian Carnatic music before developing a keen interest in the keyboard. During his time at Sacred Heart College in Kochi, Dev showcased his versatility by leading a successful college rock band, hinting at the innovative fusion style that would later define his compositions.
Dev’s career trajectory saw him immerse himself in music programming, collaborating with esteemed artists such as A.R. Rahman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and Vidyasagar. Despite a period of considering an alternative career path after graduation, a serendipitous series of events, including an encouragement from director Siddique, led him to pursue music full-time. He made his official debut in the film industry as a composer with the 2003 Malayalam film ‘Chronic Bachelor,’ directed by Siddique, which marked the beginning of his prolific journey. Deepak Dev was also a former member of the popular Kochi-based Indian rock band Motherjane, further solidifying his diverse musical background.
