Synopsis
In the shadowy corridors of a Kerala police station during the early 1990s, four suspended officers are granted an unexpected opportunity for redemption. Haunted by the failure of a high-profile missing woman investigation, these expert detectives are tasked with reopening a cold case that has long gone dormant. What begins as a chance to restore their tarnished reputations evolves into a harrowing journey through two interconnected murders that shook Kerala to its core, forcing them to confront not only the mysteries of the past but also the institutional resistance and local superstitions that threaten to derail their investigation.[1][2]
Led by a determined rookie cop and his seasoned team, the officers must navigate treacherous terrain where faith clashes with science and blind belief challenges rational inquiry. Their quest for truth becomes increasingly complicated as they encounter resistance from locals, particularly when their investigation leads them toward a mysterious monastery. The film masterfully weaves together the psychological toll of their pursuit with the procedural complexities of detective work, creating a slow-burn narrative that keeps audiences engaged despite its predictable elements.[1][5]
This is a crime thriller that eschews the sensational twists and dramatic revelations often found in Malayalam cinema, instead opting for a grounded, methodical approach to storytelling. With strong performances, particularly from Tovino Thomas in a role that showcases his talent for subtle characterization, the film delivers a respectable debut for director Darwin Kuriakose. The meticulous attention to period detail and the committed work of the entire cast elevate what could have been a routine investigation drama into a compelling exploration of justice, redemption, and the human cost of seeking truth.[3][4]
