## Scandal and Redemption: The Tale of Suvarna Simhaasanam (1997)
Suvarna Simhaasanam is a 1997 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by P. G. Viswambharan. The movie stars Suresh Gopi as Kannoth Ramanathan, with Mukesh as Vasudevan and Ranjitha as Unni Maya, and features a renowned ensemble including Jagadish, Anju Aravind, Jagathy Sreekumar, Salim Kumar, Narendra Prasad, and several other veteran Malayalam actors. The film was written by G. Usha with a screenplay by Kaloor Dennis, produced under Jyothi Production, and features cinematography by Saloo George and music composed by Ouseppachan.
At the heart of the story is Unni Maya, a dancer who becomes a victim of Kannoth Ramanathan, a notorious womaniser. After being deceived into spending a night with him, Unni Maya’s life is thrown into turmoil. Attempting to repair the situation, Ramanathan arranges her marriage with one of his relatives, but the incident continues to cast a long shadow over her marital happiness, unfolding a drama of betrayal, societal judgment, and the quest for dignity.
Upon its release, Suvarna Simhaasanam was noted for its performances and ensemble cast but received mixed reviews from critics. While the film endeavored to portray complex emotional and moral conflicts, audience and critical reception remained lukewarm and it did not achieve significant commercial success.
