Biography
PV Preetha is a distinguished playback singer from Kerala who has contributed significantly to Malayalam film and devotional music for over three decades. She was born in Thiruvananthapuram to K Venugopalan Nair and Parvathy, and her early schooling took place at Nirmala Bhavan, where her talent for music was first recognized. Preetha’s formal music training began with Nattuvam Paramashivam and continued under the guidance of Perumbavoor G. Ravindranath in classical music, allowing her to develop a versatile and expressive singing style.
Her entry into the Malayalam music industry took place during her ninth-grade year through the film “Pandu Pandoru Raajakumari,” and since then, she has recorded songs for more than thirty films and featured in over 500 albums, both devotional and film. She has had the privilege of collaborating with prominent music directors such as Arjunan Master, Raveendran Master, Johnson Master, MS Vishwanathan, Vidyasagar, and M Jayachandran, and performed with legendary playback singers, including K J Yesudas and S Janaki. Her music career is adorned with awards like the Indiwood Excellence Award (2017), Kerala State Award for Best Female Singer in Natakams (1999), Nana Award (1995, 1997), and several academy honors.
Beyond her playback singing, PV Preetha is also an accomplished stage performer and recognized as an A-grade artist for All India Radio and Doordarshan since 2000. Her devotion to music continues to inspire audiences through concerts, recordings, and television appearances, making her a respected figure in the South Indian music scene.
